Cockapoos - Determining the Type of the Breeder

Cockapoos are cute dogs that combine the characteristics of two very popular breeds - the Poodle and the Cocker Spaniel. It is no surprise that many people are virtually charmed by their appearance and personality qualities. However, it is unwise to buy a puppy on impulse. There should be much work done to explore the breed and the type of a breeder from which the puppies come.

Canine fanciers are well aware of the types of breeders that produce poor quality litters. Backyard breeders often breed their dogs to have some experience in breeding. The litters they produce run a risk of having health problems or behavioral disorders. Very often, backyard breeders start breeding with little or no knowledge about genetics and the background of the sire and dam. This may lead to health disturbances in puppies.

Commercial breeders try to profit most from breedings. Their first and foremost concern is quick cash. They rarely think about the health of the breeding stock and fail to test the dogs for genetic diseases. As the result, their litters are often of poor quality. They are also often involved in breeding a few breeds of dog. Much attention should be given to papers that confirm the health condition of the puppies and kennel management.

Responsible breeders always test the breeding stock prior to breeding. Puppies that are not meant for being used in breedings are sold with a spay/neuter contract. The fact that a breeder wants to know as much as possible about a future owner confirms that s/he takes care of the puppies' future. Cockatoos that are purchased from responsible breeders rarely display health disorders and are likely to make wonderful pets.
